A Limited-Edition Pikachu Promo Aims to Curb the Influence Against Resellers

Marking the launch of the fascinating new book Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology, an exciting partnership is underway. The Pokémon Company alongside London's Natural History Museum will launch a pop-up shop stocked with exclusive merchandise. Enthusiasts will find offerings including stationery, plushes, and artwork all drawing from the museum's aesthetic. For collectors, however, will be a limited-edition Pikachu card, offered as a free bonus at the pop-up. This shop will operate both on-site at the museum and its web counterpart between late January and mid-April.

The Book Behind the Partnership

Pokécology: An Illustrated Guide to Pokémon Ecology is a highly anticipated volume packed with beautiful artwork that show creatures in their natural habitats. The concept is what a Pokémon Professor could produce after adventurers submit their data, or what Charles Darwin might have created if the famous islands teemed with flying-types rather than birds. A key appeal lies in the book's scholarly approach, presenting Pokémon as a legitimate subject for study. Author Yoshinari Yonehara and illustrator Chihiro Kinoshita both hold doctorate degrees in animal behavior and ecology.

Why This Special Card Different

The company regularly for The Pokémon Company special edition promos for big events and crossover partnerships. Many such promotional cards often feature the iconic electric rodent who serves as the franchise mascot. The factor setting this new promotion apart however, is the unusually large size. Although precise specs have not been publicly disclosed, availability will certainly be strictly limited, and fans limited to only a single card with each transaction.

Limiting Reseller Activity

According to an official statement, a portion of the pop-up items will also be sold outside the museum walls. However, a wider release is slated for specific stores within the UK. Importantly, collectors cannot purchase this promo via the online Pokémon Center. While reseller interest is inevitable, the setup suggests they will have trouble stockpiling large numbers on this occasion. If you're unable to attend, consider the upcoming fossil-themed display coming to Chicago later this year.

"Every penny from purchases made in the museum store and from its online store, including Pokémon products, support the Natural History Museum’s charitable mission. This includes the research of 400 scientists who are conducting studies and finding answers to the planetary emergency," it says.
