Canada Exonerated of US Claims of Manipulating Skeleton Olympic Selection Event

Canada's skeleton athletes were cleared of charges that they deliberately manipulated a selection race for the upcoming Games, which allegedly denied competitors from other nations a spot to qualify.

US skeleton veteran a five-time Olympian accused the team from Canada of withdrawing four of its six entered athletes from a recent event in New York. The allegation was this shrunk the competition, making fewer qualifying points available. “The current IBSF Rules permit National Federations to withdraw athletes from an event at any time,” stated the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF).

In response, Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton defended the decision, citing competitor health and the need for rest. Coaches from the US, Denmark, Israel, and Malta had previously expressed “serious concerns” about the selection system's integrity.

The 41-year-old athlete, the 2026 Olympics are planned to be her final Games. Her path to qualification remains, the probable American berths are projected for other athletes. Uhlaender is a 2012 world gold medalist whose best Games result was fourth place in Sochi 2014.
