Rob Edwards along with O'Neil are two of the early candidates in the frame to replace Vitor Pereira as manager of Wolves.

Edwards is presently at Middlesbrough, which would create a potential hurdle to his hiring at Molineux.

Nevertheless the former Luton Town head coach - who made more than 100 of appearances for Wolves during his playing career - is considered a leading contender for the position.

The 42-year-old is said to have support from the Wolves directors as they start the process of appointing a fresh head coach.

O'Neil is also emerging as a surprise candidate, even though he would be a surprising appointment considering he was released by the club in December last year.

The ex- West Ham midfielder is currently unemployed meaning the club would not be required to provide any buyout fee.
