Eric Adams Will Support Former Governor Andrew Cuomo in New York City Mayor's Election

NYC's current mayor Mayor Adams declared his intention to back former Governor Cuomo in the upcoming mayoral race, even after an extended period of disagreements between the two Democratic figures.

A Surprising Reversal After Previous Accusations

Only weeks ago, the mayor had publicly condemned the former governor, describing him as a “snake and a untruthful person” and accusing him of having “a history of marginalizing Black political contenders.” Yet, in a recent statement, Adams reversed course, announcing he now plans to campaign alongside the former governor in neighborhoods where he holds strong support.

“It's essential to mobilize the Black and brown communities that have been affected by urban displacement on how critical this election is,” Adams commented.

The mayor further explained, “Residents have seen their rents increase due to neighborhood changes and they have been overlooked in those areas, and I plan to visit to those neighborhoods and talk directly with community leaders and organizations and I will appear with the governor in those neighborhoods and get them motivated.”

Race Dynamics and Current Developments

The mayoral contest has so far been dominated by the struggle between Cuomo and democratic socialist his main rival, whose rise in the polls has made headlines internationally and symbolized hopes for a rejuvenated progressive wing of the Democrats.

In a latest candidate forum, both the democratic socialist and GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa announced they would decline the mayor's support if offered.

Months ago, Adams had launched his re-election campaign as an independent after being indicted on legal accusations which were later dropped in exchange for Adams’s cooperation with federal immigration raids across New York City.

During a unrelated press conference on Thursday, Adams responded to reporters asking about the endorsement plan by saying, “I’ll be with Andrew this evening.”

This development came a day after the two politicians were seen attending a game side-by-side at the the NBA team's season opener at the famous arena, which took place right after a heated mayoral debate.
