Enthusiasts looking forward to the launch of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined won't have to wait too much longer. An highly anticipated playable preview is set to go live on the seventh of January, granting a generous taste into the game's initial chapters. Critically, any save data achieved within this demo will be able to be transferred directly into the main game upon its February release.
Beyond Just a Straightforward Re-release: The Thorough Overhaul
Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined constitutes a from-scratch reimagining of the iconic 2000 JRPG, originally released as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. In a notable step away from other series remakes, such as the recently released HD-2D iterations, this reimagining embraces a charming 3D art style. Locales appear to look like detailed model sets, with characters featuring a whimsical toy-like look.
"Considering the 3DS version, the narrative was still exceptionally lengthy. Therefore, we came to a conclusion that we wanted to streamline the story, [and] craft an experience for today's players."
Significant Mechanical Enhancements & Updates
The creators has implemented numerous modernizations to streamline the original experience. These include:
- Expedited Overworld Battles: Inspired by contemporary role-playing games, weaker foes are now dispatched directly on the overworld map eliminating the need for initiating a full turn-based battle screen.
- Adjustable Battle Speed: Players have the option to speed up battle sequences to quickly power through simpler encounters.
- Expanded Job Mechanics: A completely new character role was created for this remake. Additionally, party members gain the option to master a second vocation, greatly expanding strategic possibilities.
Such refinements seek to mitigate one of the 2000 title's frequent points of feedback: its immense playtime. The original adventure could easily require over 100 hours to complete. The new version was expressly designed to refine pacing and cut down on perceived bloat.
