Two individuals killed in an assault on a religious center in Manchester have been identified by law enforcement as 53-year-old Adrian Daulby, and Melvin Cravitz, aged 66.

Three more people continue receiving medical care with critical wounds after the assailant drove a vehicle into pedestrians before using a bladed weapon on the morning of the incident.

The assault, which authorities have declared was a terrorist incident, took place during Yom Kippur, the most sacred occasion in the Jewish tradition.

The perpetrator, who was shot dead at the scene, was a 35-year-old British citizen of Syrian heritage who was not previously known to counter-terrorism authorities, as stated by official statements.

Official Statements

"We are devastated," the UK's Chief Rabbi stated.

Speaking to a prominent media outlet, he said: "Yesterday's events was an awful blow to us, something which we had apprehensions regarding might happen because of the build up."

The attack was not only "a profoundly troubling moment" for Jewish citizens nationwide "but for everyone in our country," he continued.

Government Response

"The government's duty is to make sure our Jewish population, our people can conduct their daily activities with safety and security," the Home Secretary declared.

"We cannot allow Jewish citizens in our country to feel like they have to live a reduced Jewish identity, that they cannot pursue their activities and observe their religion and go to their communal institutions in without fear," she stated.

The assailant was not known to terrorism investigators, she stated to news organizations, and it was "premature" to say if there was a terrorist cell behind the attack.

Investigation Update

The law enforcement inquiry was "moving forward quickly" and there was an increased police presence at synagogues across the UK.

"The government does provide protective measures," the official stated, adding: "We must evaluate what further actions we can take to combat growing religious prejudice."

Law enforcement officials announced they were supporting the families of the two men killed.

"My deepest sympathies are with Mr Daulby and Mr Cravitz's loved ones at this profoundly challenging moment," the lead investigator stated.

He indicated that designated family representatives were in touch with relatives and would maintain assistance through the investigative procedures.

"Although procedures exist which need compliance, we pledge to remain sensitive of community customs and needs and to ensuring that the deceased and their families' preferences are followed," he added, noting that the both victims were from the local area.

Autopsies are being conducted on Friday, per official sources.
