Kansas City Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Claims Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete

The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night indicating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of player the athlete and had been in contact with the NFL.

The team omitted the name of the player by name in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Posted on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a series of photos on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.

No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.

Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles

Rice missed the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals hurt. He was given 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.

On the field, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
