President Trump Calls Loved Ones of Shot National Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence
President Trump stated on Sunday that he has invited the family of a National Guard member killed last week to visit the presidential home.
He mentioned that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.
Information on the Tragic Shooting
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a violent incident on last Wednesday in Washington DC.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have occurred in their remembrance.
Presidential Call
The commander-in-chief stated he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to honor her,” Trump told the press. “And similarly with him, recover or not.”
Community Response
Community members came together over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both they had been serving with the state guard as part of Trump’s government program to aid policing efforts in DC.
Honoring the Soldier
“She was the kind of student that educators wished for. She behaved with calm resilience, a warm expression and a optimistic attitude that lifted people around her,” the principal, the head of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the press. “She was caring, caring and always willing to support those in need.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Judicial Steps and Government Changes
Law enforcement have indicted a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The incident led the government to pause asylum applications and halt issuing entry permits to holders of travel documents.
Status of the Airman
The airman, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman high school, according to the news agency.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, the state’s leader the governor mentioned on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi informed Fox News Sunday that she also intended to speak to his relatives.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a MP with honor, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had fortitude,” he addressed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time ended too soon, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
