Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect who crafted many legendary styles favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has passed away aged 80.

Price was best known for his defined forms and performative fashion, including the pastel suits that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "their hit Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."

His passing follows less than a month after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. The performer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Partnerships with Stars

A long-time collaborator of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the distinctive jacket the singer wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting form-fitting garments made him a "genuine original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he commenced designing ensembles for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included a number of outfits for her tour of the United States following her marriage.

With a vocation that covered more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Defined Shapes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Theatrical Flair: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Creating a unique, androgynous style.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The fashion world says farewell to a true visionary whose impact on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
