It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
