The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. However, shortly thereafter, the network launched a brand-new animated series with a distinctly unique tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a contemplative talk show. At a time often defined by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series centers on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.

"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and helped it grow," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, praised it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about following this charming family go about their everyday routines.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its current sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to a broader media landscape.

“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well be part of that change he described. Or at the very least, the renewal guarantees audiences a little more time to bask in the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
