Nearly twenty-five thousand households in Queensland's southeast found themselves experiencing outages on Monday's dawn after severe thunderstorms swept through the area, producing powerful gusts hitting 109km/h.

Large Ice Stones and Widespread Destruction

Residents observed substantial frozen pellets as large as 7cm in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that multiple regions across the state had been affected by significant hail.

Utility workers were focused on reestablishing electricity service throughout the impacted areas, with dozens of response units working to address the extensive power failures.

Southern State's Climate Difficulties

State Emergency Services handled over five hundred emergency reports across the region, mostly for property damage but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

• Hoppers Crossing area - multiple emergency calls
• Wyndham area - over 175 calls for assistance

At one point on Sunday, more than 28,000 electricity consumers in the state were experiencing outages.

Weather Forecast

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along large portions of the state's eastern regions this week as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the coastal areas.

Tuesday was forecast to be the most rainy day, with ongoing storm activity anticipated across various areas of both regions.

Medical Alert

Public health experts warned that there was an greater possibility of epidemic thunderstorm asthma across the northern rural areas, specifically given the current weather patterns.
